Create Coach Sweep

You can access this dialog from the following:

Ribbon: OpenRail Modeling > Miscellaneous

The Sweep Envelope tool calculates approximate corridor swept by rolling stock represented by single coach.

It is not a kinematic envelope calculation tool. It attempts to calculate true swept corridor including rail head wear or rail side wear or all other parameters defined in respective norms. It calculates only area swept by freely rolling stock. That means calculation in sequential manner location of bogies lying on rails determining 3D position of entire rolling stock item. Sections generated at different stations along centerline being sum of rolling stock item sections in different rolling stock locations and eventually stitching per station generated sections into volumetric mesh representing swept corridor.

Coach Definition

Setting

Description

Template

Rolling stock is defined by custom rolling stock section.

Bogie Base

Location of bogies. Required to define 3D model of rolling stock.

Rear Extension

Rear extension of the rolling stock from bogie location.

Front Extension

Front extension of the rolling stock from bogie location.

Computation Parameters

Setting

Description

Section Interval

Defines distance between consecutive locations where sections used for generation mesh representing swept extent are generated.

Coach Sampling

Defines locations used for placement of rolling stock used to generate individual mesh sections.

Note: When tracking along an alignment, use F11 to include active Cant, Speed and Radius reading in Analyze Point.

Projected Envelope

Creates a 2D outline of the coach extents.

2D Swept Path Creation

The Coach Sweep tool does not create a 2D swept path.

To create a 2D swept path, you can create a terrain model using the Coach Sweep mesh as a boundary and then display the boundary as 3D linear elements to be copied into a 2D drawing.
